SPELLINGS
Spellings Checks in Year 2
Each Friday, we will check spellings linked to that week's Rocket Phonics learning, so the sounds/words should be familiar to the children. Some weeks, the children will also have Year 2 Common Exception Words (CEWs) to learn, see below. Thank you.
Term 6
Change to Spellings Lists for Term 5/6: 'Star Spellings' and 'Shooting Stars'
If your child is finding the 'Star Spellings' tricky for any particular week, please allow them to learn the words from the 'Shooting Stars' list.
On a Friday, we will ask the children which list they have learnt for that week and Mrs Starkey and I will check the spellings in 2 separate sessions. Please note that we will avoid calling these lists 'easier/harder' spellings.

Spellings for Checking on Friday 1st December 2023
Focus in class: Possessive Apostrophes (singular)
This week, we will be learning how to use singular possessive apostrophes, eg. The dog's ball. Through our daily phonics lessons, we will also be revisiting previous graphemes and developing our reading skills. I have decided not to check the children's understanding of possessive apostrophes; instead, we will focus on spelling some of the Year 2 Common Exception Words. Thank you.
NB. Sometimes, when children learn about possessive apostrophes, they start to incorrectly use the apostrophe for a plural (eg. The dog's were running) and this is something which I will teach them this week.
