National Curriculum and Curriculum Information

The national curriculum states that all schools should make provision for personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE). At Ethelbert Road Primary School we use the LifeWise scheme to teach most of our timetabled PSHE lessons, teaching the children relevant and vital life lessons to help them deal with life’s challenges. The LifeWise programme fully complies with the Department of Education’s statutory Relationships, Relationships and Sex education and Health Education guidance, allowing us to ensure we have fully met these criteria.

Parents do not have the right to withdraw their children from relationships and health education. However they do have the right to withdraw children from sex education which is deemed to be additional to that which is required by the science national curriculum.

If you have any queries or concerns about this, or would like to withdraw your child from sex education, please do look at our PSHE policy, available on the website, or email the office regarding your concerns and someone will be happy to speak to you in more detail.
