Phonics

Hello from Mrs Stembridge and how to pronounce the digraphs this week.

This week our focus is OU (as in shout) and OW (as in town). They both make the same sound! Have fun watching the videos and doing work about these two digraphs. You could also look on Phonics Play and play games to boost your learning this week. It is also important to understand that there is another way to pronounce the OW digraph (snow, glow, low ) and we will be looking at that digraph in the future.

OU and OW

This video shows how to pronounce both sounds in words. When you have watched it once through, turn off the sound and have a go at reading the words on the screen using the picture clues to help you too!

OU

See if you can listen carefully to this lesson all about OU and read the words as Josh shows them to you.Good Luck!

If you are really good at reading these sounds, see if you can think up and write your own sentences using both of these sounds?

Here are some examples to show you what I mean….

My Dad is loud and he has brown hair.

The girl saw a cow and shouted loudly!

The bank of words below may help you with this

I wonder if you can think of any other ou or ow words this week and make your own grid to show them?
