Some people have had difficulties logging in to Activelearn for the Maths Textbook when using Safari. I would recommend using Chrome if possible. Please email y5@ethelbert-road.kent.sch.uk if you have any issues.

If you have a NESSY account, please try to use it every day.

Year 6 are reading some brilliant books! What are you reading?

Christmas Writing Challenge

In the style of a newspaper report, and using the same writing toolkit given below, choose a nursery rhyme that you know well and write a report of what happened. Don't forget to include journalistic language in the same way you did for the Viking report! Here are some nursery rhymes you could use:

  • Incy Wincy Spider
  • Little Bo Peep
  • Humpty Dumpty
  • Goldilocks and the Three Bears
  • Jack and Jill

Begin by planning your report:

  • Headline
  • Sub-heading
  • Introductory paragraph
  • Formal tone (passive voice)
  • Quotations
  • Pictures with captions
  • Conclusion.
  • Can you add some humour to your report?

You can either type this report or write it in your Writing Journals.

Christmas Reading Challenge

Week beginning 7/12/20

This week, I would like you to write a newspaper report based on our Viking learning from last week: How the Danelaw was established in England.

Imagine that a settlement in England has been raided by the Vikings. Report what happened during the raid, and then report that a payment has been offered in the form of Danegeld to keep the peace.

Use the following steps to success along with the example I have attached to create your own report from the point of view of an Anglo-Saxon.

  • Name of newspaper eg. The Anglo-Saxon Daily
  • Engaging Headline (pun, alliteration, rhyme, shock)
  • Sub-heading (gives more information)
  • Introductory paragraph (What? Where? When?)
  • Quotations (direct speech)
  • Facts and opinions
  • Rhetorical questions
  • Passive voice to create a formal tone.
  • Pictures with captions.
  • Conclusion

Maths

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be trying to build up our resilience. In class, we will be trying activities from NRICH (https://nrich.maths.org/11867). The activities will require a systematic approach and resilience. Please follow the web links below:

Each activity comes with solutions sent in by people who have tried it. Let me know how you get on.

Science

While you are at home, you can complete Space missions! Head over to https://spaceteams.co.uk/ You need a mission commander (an adult) to sign you up for a 2-week mission.
