English/ Topic

  Next week you are going to be writing persuasive booklets to persuade people to go on holiday to Norway. This week we are going to learn about persuasive techniques and begin to practice our persuasive writing.

  Have a look at the PowerPoint below to find out about the AFOREST persuasive techniques. Then look at the document and video underneath. How many of the AFOREST persuasive techniques can you find in them?

Art

This week, in Art we are looking at the work of Frida Kahlo. She was from Mexico and was an artist whose work has inspired people all over the world.

There is a PowerPoint below but you may be able to find out more!

When you have read through the PowerPoint and looked at the paintings, I would like you to go back to slide number 4. This painting is called Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird. Look at this painting in detail and think about the questions next to it.

Your task for this week is to decide which “special objects” you will include in your self portrait; Frida has a cat and a monkey on her shoulders, what would you choose? You might choose a pet, your favourite animal, a favourite cartoon character or something that represents you. In my self portrait I would have my cat, Molly, on one shoulder and some tulips on the other! I would like you to practise drawing your special objects today.

Next week I will be asking you to draw your self portrait in the style of Frida Kahlo. So, if you have time for more art this week, keep practising how to draw a face remembering shape and proportion!
