Phase 6

Today we will look at what happens when you add _er or _est to a root word which has a short vowel (a, e, i, o, u) before the consonant:

hot - hotter - hottest

wet - wetter - wettest

Can you see what has happened to the final consonant?  Please work through the Powerpoint below and then add _er and _est to these words:

  • sad
  • wet
  • big
  • fit
  • thin
  • mad
  • hot

Add er est to Words with a short vowel + consonant
