Year 3 2020-2021

  Term 5

Please find the curriculum newsletter for term 5 below. This is an overview of what we are hoping to teach in term 5, subject to any bubble closures or further lockdowns.

Please find as well some links to help explain how the present perfect tense works and a video that gives a fun reminder of what prepositions are, which I will be sharing with the class again next term.

There is also a snapshot of a page from PowerMaths which explains the written method we have been using to multiply a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. There is a question on the 'discover' section which is then answered and explained step by step in the 'share' section. The relevant PowerMaths pages have also been allocated to the children for these lessons.

 Power Maths

I have uploaded a video from Power Maths which was made by the power maths team during lockdown. This goes through what to do with the textbook pages which have been assigned to the children. I allocate the textbook pages for each unit as we begin the new unit, this allows you to look at lessons with your child before or after we have looked at them in school. The practise book which is spoken about in the video is where we get much of the work we do in school from. We do not currently have the ability to share these with parents.

There is also a PowerPoint about Power Maths and how it can be used. The discover and share sections  are discussed as a whole class and the think together sections are spoken about by the children in pairs or threes. These are the textbook pages that are allocated to their Power Maths account. The work we do in class is usually based on the practice sections.

I have also allocated certain tools, such as the bar model, place value grid and part whole model. These tools can be used to help the children visualise their learning, they can use these interactive tools with the learning from Power Maths or with questions from other places. They can also use these to remind them how to draw these models that we use in class.
