The Governors of Ethelbert Road would like to thank the staff for their commitment during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Welcome to our Governors’ section. 

The Governors would like to welcome you to Ethelbert Road Primary School. Ethelbert Road Primary School is a maintained school and our Governing Body is guided by the Department of Education regulations and has 3 core functions:

 

  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance and management of staff
  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

 

Meet the Governors

 

Karen Flatteau                                   Chair/Co-Opted Governor

    I was appointed Chair of Governors in October 2021. I have lived in Kent all my life and in Faversham in recent years. As I near the end of my professional life as a social worker I am enjoying new and creative ways of using my professional and personal knowledge and experience to support this school and the local community.

    Jonathan Richardson                         Co Vice Chair/ Parent Governor

    I have been a parent governor at Ethelbert Road since March 2018, and was appointed as Co Vice Chair in October 2021. It is an honour for me to be able to support the staff and children in their development and help to enable their continuing success.

    Johanna Jennings                              Co Vice Chair/ Parent Governor

    I have been a parent governor at Ethelbert Road since November 2020 and was appointed as Co Vice Chair in October 2021. I have one child at the school. I want to play a part in the great work the school team already does in ensuring that the good mental health and well-being of the children is fundamental to their school experience.

    Michele Kirkbride                            Headteacher

    I was delighted to take up the post of Headteacher at Ethelbert Road Primary School in January 2019. With the support of a dedicated team, I endeavour to give each child the best opportunities so they can reach their true potential and leave our school as creative, curious and confident learners. I work closely with the Governing Body to monitor and evaluate the work of the school and constantly look for ways to keep improving. 

     

     

     

    Colin Edwards                               Co-opted Governor

    I have been a governor of Ethelbert Road since September 2015. I have 3 children at the school and am passionate about supporting our school leaders to achieve the best outcomes for children. I am responsible for health and safety and undertake regular monitoring visits.

    Debbie Steer                                    Staff Governor

    I have been the Staff Governor since  December 2021. I am a teaching assistant at Ethelbert Road, specialising in SEN, dyslexia, speech and language and supporting the SENCo by delivering intervention programmes to the children. My two children both attended Ethelbert Road Primary and I was also a pupil at Ethelbert too back in the late 70's!

    Julie Willis                                        Co-opted Governor

    I have worked at Ethelbert Road since September 2011; I have been a school governor since September 2016. I am committed to supporting our staff team to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children at our school.

    Kefi Culkin                                         Co-opted Governor

    I became a co-opted Governor in March 2018. I live in Faversham and had two children at the school. I am passionate in my desire to help achieve the best possible schooling experience for all children at Ethelbert Road.

      Lara Crook                                        Co-opted Governor

      I am a primary school teacher working in Reception at a school outside Canterbury. I am committed to helping support and develop excellent provision for the children at Ethelbert Road. Having lived in Faversham since 2015, I am delighted to be contributing to a school in my local community.

      Siobhan Price                                       Co-opted Governor

      I have extensive experience in education delivery across multiple sectors, in particular, developing creative delivery solutions and securing rapid improvements. I have achieved the National Professional Qualification for Head teachers and I have had strategic leadership experience in secondary education, especially in schools facing challenging circumstances.

       

      My work as the Principal Lead Advisor for South and East Kent includes the strategic oversight of  secondary school improvement, This incorporates membership of the steering committee of IBCP schools, KAH area boards and the creation of a new school improvement team which engages with maintained schools and academies across the county and beyond. I have had extensive senior leadership experience, having been an associate Head teacher, deputy headteacher and senior vice principal at two mainstream non selective schools.

       

      I am delighted to be a Governor at Ethelbert Road school. In my role as Governor I will be able to contribute to the School and help it to continue providing the best possible education for each child, looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities in the future.
