Shakespeare Club

We are so proud to be part of the Royal Shakespeare Company Associate Schools Programme. Last night our amazing Shakespeare Club joined 10 other schools to perform Hamlet on the Marlowe main stage. They made new friends with like minded students throughout their full day of technical and dress rehearsals before giving it their all, one last time in front of their friends and family. The children were incredible and performed to the absolute best of their ability. Thank you parents for being so supportive of our school and to Mrs Jago and Mrs West for enabling our wonderful children to have this amazing enrichment experience.

Ethelbert Road's Act 3 Scene 2 Performance of Hamlet

Royal Shakespeare Company Associate Schools Programme

Ethelbert Road has a dedicated Creative Arts Provider, who supports our Shakespeare Lead to run our Shakespeare Club. They use all their skills and techniques to up-skill staff to ensure creativity is embedded into our curriculum and beyond. These skills are used to deliver workshops linked to topics and to enable our children to take part in shows in different environments. This includes performing on stages, outside in our locality and in our school.

In September 2024 we will become a lead school for the district of Thanet where we will share our experience, skills, knowledge and impact of being part of the RSC Schools Associate programme.

With links between creativity and mental health already well-established, research also shows that young people who study creative subjects are more likely to do well at school, be more employable and become more active, engaged citizens.

Our Shakespeare Club were invited to the Marlowe Theatre to rehearse their scene in the RSC Associate Schools performance of Hamlet. They had a tour of the theatre, tried on their costumes and accessories, enjoyed a warm up workshop and got to see the technical side of the theatre while rehearsing. The children were fantastic and are now very much looking forward to their performance on the main stage of the Marlowe on Tuesday 25th June.

Our Shakespeare Club were very lucky to have a workshop delivered by Callum from The Marlowe Theatre. He taught the children some amazing movement and characteristic skills and  was super impressed when they showed him their scene from Hamlet. We are so proud to be an associate school of the RSC and we can't wait to perform our scene in Hamlet at The Marlowe Theatre in June.
