This week - Adverbs and Instruction Writing
This week, we will be writing instructions for making something. You might like to make a pizza, bake a cake or plant a seed (broad beans are good for this time of year). Before we do that, today’s learning is about adverbs.
Verbs and Adverbs

Task 1
Can you read through the PowerPoint below - you will learn all about adverbs and verbs.
Task 2
Make up some sentences using one verb and one adverb. Here is mine:
Mrs Kelleher spoke loudly in the classroom.
The adverb ‘loudly’ describes how I spoke in the classroom.
(The verb is 'spoke', an irregular past tense verb.)
Choose one verb and one adverb for each of your sentences:
| Past Tense Verbs (notice some of the irregular past tense verbs) | Adverbs |
| walked | quickly |
| ran | slowly |
| ate | loudly |
| danced | quietly |
| spoke | carefully |
| stood | recklessly |
| hopped | sadly |
| sang | beautifully |
| slept | happily |
| turned | angrily |
