Year 1 have been learning about the Polar Regions. In DT they designed and made an Inuit boat; a kayak used by one person for fishing and hunting or a umiak used to move several people around the icy, Arctic waters. They later tested their boats to see if they would float!
Year 3 have been learning about the changes from the early to late Stone Age and into the Bronze Age period, focussing on the changes in sourcing food and rise in farming. Late Neolithic and Bronze Age people would have kept cows, which enabled them to get milk and, later, make cheese. So we decided to attempt to make our very own Prehistoric Cheese and we think we did a very good job!
Year 6 completed their Building Bridges topic by making a suspension bridge. They worked in teams to construct a suspension bridge spanning two chairs with a deck capable of transporting toy cars. Well done Year 6!
Year 6 have been learning about different kinds of bridges. They explored ways in which pillars and beams are used to span gaps and how trusses are used to strengthen bridges.
🎄We had an amazing assembly full of Christmas songs which started our Christmas events. Our children were delighted to see their handmade decorations handing from such a special gift 🎄
Year 2 had the pleasure of working with the sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor. The children watched in amazement as Leon bravely and calmly allowed his Dad to take a cast of his face. After this, we had our hands cast and we had to hold them still for 5 minutes! We feel so lucky to have had this opportunity and we can't wait to paint our sculptures. Thank you Jason for supporting our school.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 children who are taking part in the Faversham Community Opera event at St Mary’s Church enjoyed a mask making workshop with Mrs West. Their masks and singing voices are amazing.
Year 3 enjoyed a model making workshop where they learnt how to designed and make volcanoes. In their science lesson they will learn how to make a chemical reaction in order for the volcanoes to erupt!
World War 2 Cooking
Year 3 designed and constructed moving monsters with a pneumatic system.
Clay lizards inspired by a trip to Wingham Wildlife Park and the children’s learning about rainforests.
Year 5 enjoyed designing and sewing a new species of frog as part of their cross curricular learning about rainforests.
Our Year 6 pupils won a place in the finals of the Big Stem Challenge. Year 5 representatives attended the finals and presented the coding work they had undertaken to promote sustainability.
On Saturday 1st July six children from Year 5 represented their year and ERPS at the MEBP Young Eco Engineers Race day. The team, 'The Towering Tacos', raced their go-cart against other participating schools at the Borg Warner site in Gillingham. It was an amazing day with some very exciting races!
All of Year 5 were involved in building the go-cart during our school's STEM week. They also designed the bodywork and decided on the team name. As part of the project, the children had to complete a workbook that documented their progress building the go-cart and other investigations they carried out to answer set questions (relating to, levers, gears, friction, aerodynamics, batteries, circuits, energy transfer, sustainability and recycling).
At the event day Year 5 'The Towering Tacos' won 'Best Workbook'. Congratulations to all of Year 5 for their hard work. A big thank you to Mrs Nock, Mr Adkins and Mrs Bell for giving up their Saturday to support this event and all their hard work. A special thank you to Mrs Nock for putting the workbook together.
Year 5 took part in an interactive RAF STEM morning. The children were tasked with designing and testing rockets to find the optimum launch angle and payload. It was a fantastic morning and the children used all of their working scientifically skills to create successful rockets.
