Sustainability and Climate Change Leaders

Meet the ECO Eagles

Our team of eco-friendly pupils called the ECO Eagles are responsible for promoting lots of ways to save energy at school and to help our environment. They work as a team, under the guidance of Mrs Kirkbride, in order to support the schools Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan.

The children applied for the post and were selected by the School Councillors. Their application forms were amazing and all the children showed a passion for improving the planet for our future.

Our ECO Eagles are busy collecting cardboard for the children to recycle. The new recycling bin has been named Charlie Cardboard! The children will be busy collecting litter from the playground, ensuring the lights are turned off when the class leaves the classroom, promoting the use of the food waste bins and recycling bins, ensuring the back door is shut when the heating is on and finding ways to make Ethelbert Road even more sustainable.

E-Waste Warriors Project

We are delighted to inform you that Ethelbert Road Primary School has been chosen to be part of the e-Waste Warriors project being delivered by Kent County Council using funding awarded through the Electrical Recycling Innovation Fund by Material Focus, the not-for-profit organisation leading the Recycle Your Electricals campaign. The aim of the fund is to significantly reduce e-waste and its environmental impact by making it easier for consumers to recycle their electricals.

As part of the project, we will have the chance to participate in activities such as repair workshops, amnesty events and competitions with prizes for schools that recycle the most (in weight) and repair the most electrical items.

Year 6 will be taking part in the team repair session where they will be working in pairs to repair a retro game console.

How can you get involved?

Bring in your broken and/or reusable small electricals (smaller than microwave in size) and place them in the pink recycling/repair bin. We only have one bin, so all items can go in the oink bin and will be sorted once collected.

Please place the items in the bins so they are not damaged as they are all still valuable! Cables are welcome too!

*No vapes or batteries please*

The bins will be open for use from Monday 19th January to Friday 13th February 2026, before and after school.
