Welcome Back Message

Happy new year!

A message to play to your child

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope that you are all healthy and well and had a lovely Christmas. Once again we would like to thank you all for our very generous gifts and hope that Santa treated you all kindly.Due to the current situation with the pandemic, we find ourselves setting home learning tasks for the next two weeks. We completely understand that some of you will be juggling work commitments alongside childcare and home learning! This is no easy task so please just do the best that you can under your personal circumstances and do not worry if you can`t get everything completed.

To access home learning Click on each day to see the learning activities we have planned for you. Every day we have planned 4 tasks – a topic activity, a letters and sounds lesson, a Maths lesson and a patterning (handwriting) activity. We have added a suggested timetable for those of you that would like to structure your day. We would also like you to allow 15 minutes every day for reading. Oxford Owl website has free scheme books for your child to read to you at home.     https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/free-ebooks/

If you set up a free account and then click on eBooks you can read scheme books for free!  You can select an age range and choose appropriate books for your child to read to you at home. Phonic books are the best type of books to support the skills your child is learning in our daily Letters and Sounds lessons. Daily reading really helps children progress and little and often is good practice. There are also loads of other activities on this amazing website which support our lessons. Please also continue to read stories to your child every day/bedtime and encourage them to retell the story and answer questions about it. There are also lots of other wonderful websites to support home learning on our learning zone pages so please do take a look.

Learning to be emailed to us for feedback  On Thursday 7 January we would like you to email us a photo of your child`s patterning/handwriting task (by 4pm please) and then we will email you back with feedback on Friday by 4pm.  Please send it to our class e mail address in blue below. Please make sure your child has written their name on the top in their best cursive handwriting. Use the name cards we sent home at Christmas to keep practicing the name writing.  We are always happy to receive pictures of any other work done at home during the week so if you wish to send them in to us please do so.

Contacting us We are always on the end of an email (YR@ethelbert-road.kent.sch.uk) so please do get in touch if you need us to clarify anything, need any further support or just want to send us a picture of some work you have done at home. We are here to help and we will be keeping in touch with you during these two weeks.

Best Wishes and keep safe and keep smiling

Mrs Stembridge, Miss Nutt and Miss Silcox
