Word of the Day: brisk (adjective)

etymology: Brisk comes from the Scottish word bruisk, which means 'quick or lively'.

This week, we will continue to explore the 'i before e except after c rule', and look at some common exceptions.
Read through the power point, and then try to write a sentence for each of this week's spellings.
Today, we are starting a new topic: A Study of Scandinavia.
For the remainder of this term, we will be learning about the geography of Scandinavia. We already know a little about this fascinating region as a result of our Viking history focus. What do you already know? Which countries make up Scandinavia? What is a fjord?
Our first lesson is an introduction to the topic. Prepare to be amazed by the beauty of this region!
A Study of Scandinavia
LO: To explore the geography of Scandinavia.

- locate the countries and main cities of Scandinavia.
Today's topic lesson is an introduction to Scandinavia. I would like you to scroll through the powerpoint slides, and as you look at the images, write a short paragraph to describe the geography of the region. Try to include some of the following geographical language in your paragraph:
- Mountainous regions.
- Coastal towns/cities
- Rural communities
- Northern Europe
- Aerial view
You could begin your paragraph with any of the following openers:
- I can see that...
- The pictures show that...
- I can deduce from the photos of Scandinavia that the region...
Then, looking at a map of the region, try to answer the geographical questions in the attached pdf. If you are not able to print the pdf, just answer the questions on paper. What else would you like to learn about Scandinavia?
