Look at the picture below and ask your child to count the shells and then show you that number of shells on a tens frame. Then do the same with the balls, buttons and badges in the picture. The idea is to see if they can count objects and then transfer that number onto a tens frame. Eg if they count 9 shells accurately they then colour in 9 spaces on the tens frame. A tens frame template is attached for you but you may choose to draw it yourself instead.

The sheet below reinforces tens frame learning. Once completed ask your child to explain to you how may puppies there are and how many spaces are left in each tens frame? Can they see and understand that these two number always equal ten? A good mathematician can always explain their learning in great detail so ensure your child is confident at describing how they did the task.
