The idea is that your child completely understands that 5 is made up of two smaller numbers e.g. they know that 5 can be made up of 4 and 1 but also from 3 and 2 and from 2 and 3. See if they can find all of the ways to make 5 in this game and then explain to you how they know they have found all of the ways. They may wish to record this in in a way that makes sense to them to prove they have found all of the ways and that there are no other ways left to find. Good Luck!
